Man calls police to investigate loud noise, it turns out to be hedgehogs having sex

Next time you’re kept awake at night by the moans and groans of your flatmate getting lucky, just be grateful you don’t live with a pair of horny hedgehogs.

A man realised he had hedgehogs for housemates when two of the animals began mating extremely loudly in his home in Büchenbach, near Nuremberg in Germany.

Their lovemaking was so passionate – and noisy – that the homeowner called police to report the mysterious ‘loud panting’ noise.

After searching the entire building for the source of the sound, officers were surprised when they eventually caught the two hedgehogs in the act.

The romantic encounter had been going on for about 20 minutes when the couple were interrupted.

In a new animal-themed cafe, 20 to 30 hedgehogs of different breeds scrabble and snooze in glass tanks in Tokyo's Roppongi entertainment district. Customers have been queuing to play with the prickly mammals, which have long been sold in Japan as pets. The cafe's name Harry alludes to the Japanese word for hedgehog, harinezumi. And it’s just as well that the man called police when he did, because hedgehogs have some pretty impressive sexual stamina, according to The Local.

The expert added: ‘Hedgehogs groan loudly during the act and the male makes most of the noise.’

When their lovemaking was disturbed by the light of the officers’ torches, the embarrassed animals fled immediately.
