Hospital helipad will be too noisy, say locals

Dublin residents are opposing a helipad that could save nine extra lives a year amid fears over noise and the effect on the community.

The Mater Hospital said that the proposed helipad was required and justified. It said that because it was the national centre for cardiac surgery, heart and lung transplants and spinal injuries, patients needed to be transferred there as quickly as possible.

However, a local residents’ association has raised concerns. “We are aware that the residents adjacent to Cork University Hospital were obliged to install double and triple glazing at their own expense to attenuate the noise…
